Dollar Tree Gift Giving for Kids

We started this fun Christmas tradition a few years ago when our oldest daughter was about 2.  We stole the idea from her little friend and her parents.  Every year, each parent gives her $5 and they take her to Dollar Tree to pick out and buy gifts for the other parent.  I'm telling you, this is totally worth your time!  I know it is the week before Christmas but if you can make the time, I promise it will be a fun activity for you and your littles.   Resist the urge to make suggestions or give hints.  It is completely hilarious to see what your child thinks you and your spouse would love.  We've gotten ice scrappers, shot glasses, fake flowers, pork rinds.... It's completely hilarious and precious all at the same time!  Aside from being great fun, your child will learn the values of gift giving and receiving.

Now that our daughter is 4 1/2, we talked about keeping the likes of the gift recipient in mind while doing her shopping.  In the past, we usually got a bag full of things that she liked- ring pops, princess puzzles, stickers......  but this time she took careful consideration to make her selections.  And she did an amazing job!

Of course, we had to take our Melissa and Doug shopping cart with us!  We love it!

It was tempting for her not to get daddy the usual bag of ring pops, but after some time she picked him out a bag of sour Starburst minis.  Daddy is going to give these 2 thumbs up!  ***Hint- if you let them pick out a snack or candy item, something you can eat and toss,  it's less junk you will have to keep around the house all year.

Daddy is also getting a mini bottle of sparkling cider!

Off to the hardware isle!  Although this blue bike chain did not make the final cut, it was
carefully inspected, touched, and contemplated.

I think daddy is going to love his gifts!  Shhh..  don't tell him if you know him! 😜

The final selections were:

1. Paw Patrol puzzle
2. Mini bottle of sparkling cider
3. Starburst sour minis
4. A truck toy
5. A wooden bird feeder craft project- (love this one because they can build it together!)

What fun traditions do you have for Christmas?
